10 Random facts about NFATD
1. It took 17 years from concept to eventually publish the story.
2. Many scenes were inspired by real life events (e.g. Tony complaining about his windows, and the flood).
3. Initial research revealed that the cost of independently applying for asylum in the UK through a specialised solicitor in London was equivalent to the cost of repatriating the body of a loved one to an African country.
4. Mid January 2022 was scheduled as the original release timeframe, but the ebook was published with only seconds left before February 1st.
5. Kejatoa & Costa do Jóias is a fictional west African country. Toas is the national currency.
6. The inaugural Mo Siewcharran Prize encouraged me to not give up on writing and an innocent query in 2021 nudged me to take another look at the rough draft.
7. NFAMTD is the fourth title iteration (the previous ones are incorporated as section titles).
8. Events take place over the course of six years (2014 – 2020).
9. The front cover image is a fingerprint in the shape of a teardrop/raindrop. The images on the back cover are also fingerprints.
10. A lot of the initial story was drafted on my phone during a daily 4-5 hour train commute.
